Restylane

What Is Restylane?

Restylane is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler which restores volume and fullness to the skin correcting facial wrinkles and folds. This cosmetic dermal filler is made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that already exists within the human body.

Restylane maintains its shape using the bodys own moisture. The hyaluronic acid gradually degrades and each molecule binds to more water over time, the same volume can be maintained with less hyaluronic acid. This ability of hyaluronic acid to bind to water is what helps provide lasting results.

Unlike collagen products, Restylane is free from animal proteins.

Is Restylane Safe?

Since 1996 millions of treatments have been safely carried out in more than 70 countries. It is fully biocompatible and based on clinical studies, treatments produce a low occurrence of adverse events. The most commonly reported side effects were temporary redness and swelling at the injection site, these effects typically resolved in less than seven days.

Are there any contra-indications to having Restylane?

Restylane during pregnancy, breast feeding females or patients under 18 years has not been established.

Patients with increased susceptibility to keloid formation and hypertrophic scarring have not been studied. This product should not be used in patients with known susceptibility to keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring.

Minimal exposure of the treated area to excessive sun and UV lamp exposure and extreme cold weather until any initial swelling and redness has resolved is advised.

How long does Restylane last?

Restylane will generally last for about six months. However, the results differ from patient to patient.

What should I do Prior to Treatment?

A week prior to your treatment, avoid taking St Johns Wort or high doses of Vitamin E supplements, Aspirin and other non steroidal anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen. These agents may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site. Also if you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another recurrence.

Will the Treatment Hurt?

Everyone has a different pain threshold, the procedure is simple but you may experience some discomfort as Restylane is injected directly into the skin. To optimize your comfort, your Surgeon may numb the area prior to treatment.

Is Restylane Treatment for Me?

No treatments will be given without a prior consultation to discuss treatment in detail, any complications and your expectations. Your surgeon will advise you whether he feels Restylane is the correct treatment for you to proceed with.
